Going Green
What does ‘Going Green’ mean to you?
‘Going Green’ was a major topic at this year’s Clean Show in New Orleans. It has been a focus at all levels of our government for the past two decades as well as being a global issue for world leaders. In our own industry, we have seen the efforts to protect our environment championed by chemical companies, equipment manufacturers, material suppliers, service providers, and others. The end users of textile rental services are demanding environmentally friendly products and services as they cater to their own customers’ demands.
So, we want to know where do you stand on ‘Going Green’? Do you support Green efforts? If not, why? What efforts have you made in your business to address the issue? What would you do to Go Green if you’re not already?
We would like to hear from you in this blog regarding what is one of the most common topics of conversation in our trade magazines, conventions, and international news (aside from the economy). Let us know how you feel about the Going Green Movement.

The biggest problem that I have seen in going Green is unsubstantiated programs being oversold that are more hazardous to humans than the presently accepted processing systems. This was seen a decade ago when efforts to find an alternative for “PERC” (dry cleaning solvent) yielded several solvents which were just as dangerous in different ways.

Because of all the complex equipment and chemicals used in the industry, there has always been a high awareness of the regulatory requirements to protect the environment. This year at the Clean Show, time after time I was talking to vendors and visitors who really “get it” that it matters to lessen human impact on the earth and it’s atmosphere. People understanding that it makes business sense and common sense to maintain our standard of living using low-impact and technologically advanced processes and products that save money, save the garments and save the planet.
